DAY - FOR THE GIRL IN THE BLUE DRESS IN THE PARKING LOT AT WALMART

NOTE:
I saw this girl years ago. The poem has been following me around ever since.

FOR THE GIRL IN THE BLUE DRESS IN THE PARKING LOT AT WALMART

The dress was indigo, sprinkled
with tiny embroidered white flowers.
Pink flip-flops graced her slender feet.
On her head, a cowboy hat she pulled off
to toss hair the yellow of a dandelion.
She linked arms with a skinny boy
in a too-tight black T-shirt,
cigarette dangling from thin red lips.
Hot sun pounded down, blushing the
tender skin on her milky shoulders.
She kissed him hard on the mouth
then disappeared inside the store
in a flash of gold-plated sunlight,
leaving him far behind.

PROMPT NOTES:
#2 - Write a poem about a specific place or person - a particular house or store or school or office. Try to incorporate concrete details, like street names, hair color, clothes.

Beautiful and bittersweet, Marianne.

Your poem is vivid, Marianne. It's quite akin to the things I write about I thought.

Your poem comes alive like a brief piece of film where the camera manages to capture every nuance without the need for words. Wonderfully complete moment...
