#32. COVID Christmas

When she awakens at 6:00am, it's a frigid -2 degrees,
the morning of the strangest Christmas of her life.
They celebrate on a Zoom call with their children,
daughter in St. Paul, son in Brooklyn.
Later they eat fancy Croque Monsieur sandwiches
with lime chips and cokes, not their traditional feast,
the two of them quarantined together
like every other day of the pandemic.
She stares out the study windows
at jumbled tree branches,
oak, poplar, cottonwood,
crisscrossing the winter sky to infinity.
For a brief moment in time,
the world turns without her.

Oh, yes, the strangest Christmas ever. I totally agree, Marianne.
