Prompt for Day 4
Writing inside out (or outside in) means setting your physical or metaphorical inner bits out of doors, to be walked around and looked at from odd angles, as if they were monuments or mailboxes. Write a poem today that illustrates your idea of what is inside-out.
Inside Outside
In this neighborhood,
folks tend to stay inside
on dark winter evenings.
They eat hamburger casserole,
then she wipes down cracked linoleum
counters and he watches mind-numbing TV.
At exactly ten o'clock, she lets the dog in,
he checks the locks on all the doors
and together they climb the stairs.
They fall immediately into dreamless sleep,
while the old family photos hiss
and mutter from their frames in the hall.
Outside, the empty streets echo with silence
as the night unrolls like a bolt of thick black
flannel covering their little town.

Some interesting images here. I think mind-numbing TV is redundant, tho. ;-) I like the old photos whispering from their frames. Less certain about the night pressing down like syrup. Also think you don't need the first stanza, as it is just set up. Love the image of wiping down cracked linoleum. Overall, a strong poem.
"while the old family photos
whisper from their frames on the walls"--Love this! Great poem! ---Marie
'street lights peer in the windows'
and the vigilant dog are great images

black flannel skies and streetlights peering in the windows! I love these images and see them vividly like a claymation cartoon in my mind. Great imagery here! A fave.
