Napowrimo #8: unusual love connections

Prompt for Day 8
Think of your current love, your current obsession or the one who got away. Now come up with five or more unusual metaphors for the object of your affection/obsession: wool scarf, cough drop, puddle, half-empty bottle of red wine… Choose your favorite of the bunch and write a poem celebrating (or trashing) your love.

Thirty-Nine Years
We eat in easy silence; homemade chicken soup
golden with egg noodles, chunks of crusty bread.
Pale lamplight outlines his craggy face.
His iron-gray hair is cut military short.
Like a Mount Rushmore head
his features are angular, almost stern.
He sees that I'm watching,
smiles at me with piercing sweetness,
takes my hand in his own.
Together we're a pair of old worn shoes,
comfortable and complete.
We clink our glasses of dark ruby-purple Merlot and
drink to the past we've shared and the future to come.
I'm still beautiful, after all these years,
because he loves me.

That's what it's all about, isn't it?

Very nice.

Love the last two lines; that's how my husband makes me feel as well.
