Change Is In The Wind
This is where
the year
has taken me:
to this October
morning
,
to this yellowed fern
beside the path,
to this sturdy shelter
of oak branches
scored high above me,
leaves sepia
against the lead face
of the autumn sky.
I feel
the icy handle of winter
in the wind,
December approaches,
gray shadows
swallow
the fields,
last days draw near;
it's all happening
too soon.

This is a lovely, wistful piece, and I feel better for having read it. What a delight to visit you this morning!
Whirling with Robert Bly
Seasons change. They parade like memories, sometimes lingering just a little bit longer...

Oh, I am quite happy to stay right where we are at in the season ... am not relishing the thought of winter's arrival at all. I love the snow, hate to have to shovel it, hate the ice and cold too.
This is a lovely worlde.
RYN: Thank you
Yes, that last day does seem to be coming on much too swiftly... nicely done.
A beautiful lilting piece of writing, Marianne. Thanks for asking if I am feeling better. I had a wretched time last week with the flu.

This is gorgeous, especially:
"leaves sepia
against the lead face
of the autumn sky."
I like "icy handle of winter". It made me shiver.
Your first line invites the reader in, Marianne. This piece reminds me of Mary Oliver. Brava! I love the image of looking up through the oak branches.
