2013 NaPoWriMo #15: Small Town Hot Night

Miz Quickly's PROMPT FIFTEEN: MUSIC
Give yourself a break. Relax.
Find a relatively short piece of instrumental music. Listen to it several times in a single session. After the first time through, begin to jot down random words and phrases as you listen.
Write a poem.

Small Town Hot Night
I remember a crazy wild
summer night in my hometown,
a car ride with a boy,
speeding down a lonesome
tar-topped, two-lane highway,
cigarette smoke stinging
his steel blue eyes, me
blowing bubblegum-bubbles,
white lines flying past
faster than the speed
of falling in love
when you're sixteen,
air heavy with the smell
of burning rubber
and June roses.

That burning rubber and roses is an exquisite combination. Nicely done.
