when she needs to get away.
Years ago, she rented a red convertible
for her husband’s fiftieth birthday weekend.
Parked it in front of their house,
tied a balloon to the steering wheel,
a tape of Born to Be Wild, ready to go.
They took turns driving,
laughing like teenagers.
The best part was tooling
through dappled sunshine
on Dodd Road, top down,
wind rushing through her hair,
her guy next to her.
She’s been going there a lot lately.
laughing like teenagers.

She’s been going there a lot lately.

I so relate to this. My mind keeps drifting to all the road trips we did, always going west toward the Mountains. The mind is a wondrous thing. Knowing when and what we need to remember. Can only hope that one day soon you will feel that way again in a current moment. Thanks for this one,
Elizabeth
Love this visual piece, Marianne. Lots of memories during this time.
