Prompt for Day 24

All Hail The Queen
Here’s to the beauty queen
of West 7th Street,
tarnished pageant sash
shrouding shriveled breasts,
the years hanging off her face
like the moldering pearls round her neck.
The Lady moves like the rain’s
turned her legs to rust.
Midday ghost, she walks in the sun,
her own never-never land,
lady of the evening lost along the way.
The Lady's not a used car off the lot,
she’s just stopped in a blind alley
waiting for this nowhere to be somewhere.
Nobody’s daughter, her gray curls undone,
all she's got left is her fading purple dress.

very cool. i like "the years hang...crumbling pearls round her neck". but everyone is someone's daughter...
Oh, yeah; she's everywhere you look in NYC
Yes sadly we have these bag ladies here too.
Though ours are probably in better condition because of our climate and slightly easier way of life.
Yes, everyone is someone's daughter. Sad.
They are everywhere in NYC.

waiting for this nowhere to be somewhere.
A great line amongst great lines!
fine storytelling, and reminder that everyone has a story. Keeping the sash, nice visual, what we wouldn't give for the full story?
Powerful, vivid images. I liked this a lot.
This made me feel incredibly sad. Good work.
