Napowrimo #30: free day (and farewell)

Prompt for Day 30
Today is the last day of (Inter)National Poetry Month and the Read Write Poem NaPoWriMo Challenge. The prompt today is a free day — write and share whatever you like.

Last day! Endings always make me sad. My thanks to the fantastic Read Write Poem Staff. I fell into this by accident and have enjoyed meeting the many talented and creative writers who took part in this amazing experience with me. I hope to find a way to stay connected to the artistic spirit I found here on these internet pages.

"Why can't we get all the people together in the world that we really like and then just stay together? I guess that wouldn't work. Someone would leave. Someone always leaves. Then we would have to say good-bye. I hate good-byes. I know what I need. I need more hellos." ~Charles M. Schulz

A Season Almost Ended

Bloated raindrops drip from the eaves
of the house next door, crash loudly
on the cracked asphalt driveway.
Mottled oak leaves cling to scraggy branches,
holding tightly, not ready to let go.
Random patches of snow shelter the grass;
weary grayness permeates the afternoon,
flat and used up like an old woman.
Layer by layer, winter melts away.

Those gray shades of winter. You describe it beautifully and end so well.

We are going into winter soon. It is Autumn here and beautiful weather. We don't have harsh northern winters.I only wore an overcoat about three times last year. We inhabit very different worlds but we also share a lot. I like your poem and I like your Mr Schulz.

Beautiful, Michelle. Love the ending to this poem. Liked your choice of Charles Schultz quotes, too.

I've most definitely enjoyed your work and will continue to visit your blog in the future. I'm also looking forward to checking in at your recipe blog. And, thanks so much for your encouragement and kind comments on my blog. Stay well!

Yeah well, it ain't melting quite fast enough for me, who got about a foot of new accumulation on Tuesday, I'll tell ya, nossir.

Still, your poem gives me hope.

Thanks for stopping by so frequently this month with kind support and favorable comments. I appreciate it.

Had to check where you're posting from--we've already had to use the A/C a couple of times, the dogwoods are finished, and I'll soon be griping about the heat.
like the quote.
see ya.
